On 14 December 2022, the National Climate Change Secretariat (“NCCS”) published the from the on Singapore’s Climate Ambition conducted from 5 to 26 September 2022. NCCS received 490 responses from members of the public and representatives of businesses and NGOs. A was published in October 2022. Sixty-six percent of respondents felt that the proposed enhancement to Singapore’s climate ambition to achieve net-zero by 2050 was “not sufficiently ambitious”, while 26% agreed that the goal was “just right”. Sixty-two percent of respondents noted that there was scope to enhance Singapore’s 2030 nationally determined contribution (“NDC”). NDCs are at the heart of the Paris Agreement and the achievement of its long-term goals. NDCs?embody efforts by each country to reduce national emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change.

Respondents also provided suggestions on raising Singapore’s climate ambition in the following categories:

  • Catalysing business transformation
  • Investing in low-carbon technologies
  • Pursuing effective international collaboration
  • Adopt low-carbon practices
  • Right-pricing carbon to shape business decisions and consumer behaviour
